Get Some Street Skills!
Stret Skills is an easy three-hour presentation and discussion class that will give you the information you need to begin riding with confidence. A special section on helping your kids ride safely will also be included. Whether you want to start bicycling for fun, commuting, errands, or for fitness, or all of these, this class will give you the skills and knowledge to handle.

You won't need to bring a bike -- unless you want to ride to the class!

Date: Saturday, May 5, 2007

Time: 9 a.m. to Noon

Location: Kern County Superintendent of Schools Office, Conference Room B, 1300 17th Street, Bakersfield, CA.

Th material in this class counts as about half of the Road 1 class (see below)

Additional Classes
Education has been proven to reduce bicycling crashes by up to 70 percent. The League of American Bicyclists' Bike Ed program offers bicycling education throughout the year.

The League's program has benefitted thousands of bicyclists of all ages and abilities for more than 20 years. It is the only national bicycling educational program with certified instructors. Below are classes offered by the League right here in Bakersfield.

Kids II - Real World Cycling for kids 10-12 years old

Bike Ed Road I: Cycling with Confidence and skill

This is a course from the League of American Bicyclists and is taught by a League Certified Instructor. This League's program is the only national bicycle education program with certified instructors, and is the gold standard in bicycling education.

Even though research shows that bicyclists are safest when they ride with and act like traffic, most bicyclists don't know how to ride with confidence in traffic situations. Don't be one of them! get the skills and knowledge you need to ride well in almost any situation. This class will teach you traffic skills, principles and laws, basic bike maintenance, fit and operation, vital emergency maneuvers and much more. Everyone from beginning teen and adult bicyclists to seasoned bicycle club members and racers can benefit from this class.

Open to anyone 16 and older
Children 13-15 years old may attend with a parent/guardian

Bicycle Safety for Adults who work with Kids

This class is for parents, teachers, public safety officials or anyone who works with kids, whether they're your own or someone else's.

A helmet alone is NOT enough. Learn what it really takes to keep kids safe on bikes. Learn specific skills and the techniquest that will help children learn them. Learn about the developmental differences that affect kids' when it comes to bicycling and bicycle safety.

Video, handouts, demonstrations, presentations and more.

You do not need to bring a bicycle to this class, but will have the chance to sign up for Road I (see above).

Kids II - Real World Cycling for Kids ages 10-12

This class is held almost entirely on bikes and teaches children age 10-12 the basics of getting around safely. Traffic rules, traffic principles, basic bicycling and traffic skills, basic emergency maneuvers, and much more are taught. The class concludes with a writen and on-road test.
