The oldest and largest national organization of bicyclists. Involved in advocacy, education and much more for more than 100 years.

Adventure Cycling Association
Want to tour across the state or across the country? Adventure Cycling is the place to go. Maps, gear, a great touring-oriented magazine and much more. Patriotic, too. The organization began as "Bikecentennail" with a cross-country bike ride in 1976.

Marin County Bicycle Coalition
The model for bicycle advocacy. Lots going on here and lots to learn from.

The California Bicycle Coalition
The statewide bicycle coalition. Great site with good information.

Sheldon Brown's Harris Cyclery site
More than just the site of a good bike shop, it's put together by Sheldon Brown, one of the most knowledgeable people out there on bicycling mechanics and riding. Great wealth of articles on all kinds of topics.

The International Christian Cycling Club
A site that combines bicycling and faith. Has sub-sites for mountain bikers and roadies. Some good articles.

Bicycling Magazines

Cycling Plus
In our opinion, the best all-around bicycling magazine out there. A British publication with in-depth articles on everything from the racing scene to practical commuting. Unlike most American mags, this one takes the bicycle seriously as a form of transportation.

Bicycling
The largest American magazine devoted to bicycling. Emphasis on road bikes. Lots of short articles. Not as in-depth as many other magazines. Little attention to bicycling for practical reasons (commuting, errands) or touring.

Bicycling and Public Transit

Golden Empire Transit
Riding the bus helps clean up the air, and you can take your bike along. Clean, fast, economical, efficient. Combining a bike and a bus can get you just about anywhere you need to go in Bakersfield. Check it out.

Amtrak
